ANNUAL SPORTS OF SERAMPORE COLLEGE: FACULTY OF THEOLOGY

The much hyped and the most awaited Annual Sports of Serampore College: Faculty of Theology was conducted from 21st – 24th Jan 2020. It was organized by the Sports Sub-Committee. The Theology communities participated with great enthusiasm and with the true spirit of sportsmanship. The Theme of the week-long sports is “Soaring High.” Students, Faculty members and their families are divided into four houses— William Carey, Joshua Marshman, William Ward and Hannah Marshman.

Right from the start, the spirit of the game was high and intense. It was indeed a sight to admire, remember and cherish. Students, faculty members and family members including the Children participated in all the groups and individual events. The disciplines include Cricket, Football, Badminton, Volleyball, Tug of war (Mixed) and many other individual items.

On the fourth and final day, William Carey House and Joshua Marshman House came head to head in both Cricket and Football Finals. It was a nerve breaking and nail-biting matches but in the end Joshua Marshman House could not withstand the force and the power of William Carey House who eventually and convincingly claim victory in both the matches. On the other hand, Joshua Marshman House did not lose everything, they were the overall House Champion, taking into account all the groups and individual achievements of the team.

A lot remains to say about the events, the atmosphere, the cheers for their respective team, the slogans, the laughter. However, a very short but meaningful and fruitful Annual Sports week, 2019-2020 ended with jubilation and celebration for some, and disappointment and dismay for the others. However, that’s all part of the sports and everyone accepted it with true spirit of sportsmanship, that deserves high appreciation and admiration.

Thesis Synopsis Seminar : B.D. final year students will be presenting their thesis synopsis on February 5, 2020 (Wednesday) at Carey Library and Research Center at 2:30 P.M. They are expected to summarize their thesis in two pages and present the same before the faculty and students. This is a time of testing for thesis writing student on their expertise on their respective subject. This exercise helps the student as perspectives and suggestions come from different theological disciplines to enrich their works.

Academic Seminar : Serampore College: Faculty of Theology conducted Academic Seminar every month. For the February Academic Seminar, paper will be presented by Rev. K. Laltlankima, Secretary and Asst. Professor, Department of Theology and Ethics on the topic “The Contributions of the Bible in Enriching Literature” on February 6, 2020. As has been the practice for many years, this seminar will be attended by faculty members, and students of Bachelor, Master and Doctoral programmes. 

Elocution Competition : Elocution Competition is a regular programme of Serampore College: Faculty of Theology. This year, the competition is scheduled on February 4, 2020. In this competition, two students from the four classes of Bachelor of Divinity programme will represent their college and speak on any one from the topic below:

            1) Citizenship Amendment Act

            2) Human Trafficking

            3) Rise of Religious Fundamentalism

            4) Ecology and Technology

Dr. Vansanglura received “Education Leadership Award, 2019”.

The Principal, Dr. Vansanglura is awarded ‘Education Leadership Award’, 2019 at Taj Bengal, Kolkata on 11th November, 2019. It is a National Education Award and the selectors ‘Jury’ were nine members comprising from India and abroad. It is a prestigious award. It is a proud moment for Serampore College Community.

APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FOR THE FOLLOWING COURSES FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2020

  1. BACHELOR OF DIVINITY:Applications are invited (click here to download B.D Application Form) for the First Phase admission of Bachelor of Divinity Course for the new academic year 2020-21. Interested person may apply with the following information specified under:

a. Candidate may choose any of the Entrance Date mentioned below as per their convenience.

b. All candidates must send their application form within the date mentioned below.

c. For any queries related to the course, kindly write to the Vice Principal/ Secretary, Faculty of Theology (sertheology@yahoo.in).

  • First Phase B.D Entrance Schedule: Written and Interview would be held on 8th January 2020 (Written Examination) & 9th January 2020 (Personal Interview). Candidates opting for the First Phase must send their filled in Application Form to the Office and must reach before end of 10th December 2019.
  • Second Phase B.D Entrance Schedule: Written and Interview would be held on 21st April 2020 (Written Examination) & 22nd April 2020 (Personal Interview). Candidates opting for the Second Phase must send their filled in Application Form to the Office and must reach before end of 10th April 2020.

    2. BACHELOR OF BIBLE TRANSLATIONS STUDIES (BBTS):Applications are invited (Click here to download BBTS Application Form) for the course of Bachelor of Bible Translation Studies (BBTS) for the new academic year 2020. Interested person may apply with the following information specified under:

    • BBTS is a distance (correspondence) course.
    • Kindly see the course detail under the page Academic Programme.
    • Last date of submission of the application form is 15th October 2019
    • Attached all the documents and fees required (as specified in the application form) during submission of the forms.

  • Written examinations will be held on 7th November 2019.
  • Interview will be held on 8th November 2019.

  • Candidate may apply through the application form uploaded in the website.
  • Candidate must pass the Common Entrance Test conducted by the Senate of Serampore College.
  • Candidate waiting for the Common Entrance Test result may also apply.

On 28th July 2019, Dr. Vansanglura was honoured with the ‘Bharat Excellence Award’, ‘Leading Educationist of India Award’ & ‘Best Indian Golden Personalities Award’ at C.D. Deshmukh Auditorium, India International Center in New Delhi by Friendship Forum of India. It is indeed a proud moment for the whole Serampore College community.
