ANNUAL SPORTS OF SERAMPORE COLLEGE: FACULTY OF THEOLOGY
The much hyped and the most awaited Annual Sports of Serampore College: Faculty of Theology was conducted from 21st – 24th Jan 2020. It was organized by the Sports Sub-Committee. The Theology communities participated with great enthusiasm and with the true spirit of sportsmanship. The Theme of the week-long sports is “Soaring High.” Students, Faculty members and their families are divided into four houses— William Carey, Joshua Marshman, William Ward and Hannah Marshman.
Right from the start, the spirit of the game was high and intense. It was indeed a sight to admire, remember and cherish. Students, faculty members and family members including the Children participated in all the groups and individual events. The disciplines include Cricket, Football, Badminton, Volleyball, Tug of war (Mixed) and many other individual items.
On the fourth and final day, William Carey House and Joshua Marshman House came head to head in both Cricket and Football Finals. It was a nerve breaking and nail-biting matches but in the end Joshua Marshman House could not withstand the force and the power of William Carey House who eventually and convincingly claim victory in both the matches. On the other hand, Joshua Marshman House did not lose everything, they were the overall House Champion, taking into account all the groups and individual achievements of the team.
A lot remains to say about the events, the atmosphere, the cheers for their respective team, the slogans, the laughter. However, a very short but meaningful and fruitful Annual Sports week, 2019-2020 ended with jubilation and celebration for some, and disappointment and dismay for the others. However, that’s all part of the sports and everyone accepted it with true spirit of sportsmanship, that deserves high appreciation and admiration.
