Spiritual Life
Serampore College believes in maintaining a balance between academic and spiritual life. It also believes that academic excellence and spiritual growth makes one to be a better instrument of God. The college constantly encourages its students not to separate their academic life from their spiritual life. The college expects all students to spend time in reading the Bible and personal prayer.
To ensure spiritual growth, the college conducts morning devotion at 8:00AM, intercessory prayer at 1:15 PM and Vesper at 6:30PM. Morning devotion is for both the teaching faculty and students. Noon-time intercessory prayer is for students. They pray for their personal needs, for the country, for justice and peace in the world, and any other concerns. During vesper, freshers share the story of their calling and testimony. Final year students share the experiences of their theological journey. Apart from these, the college also conducts two worship services on Sunday. Above all, students are also given the opportunity to engage themselves in ‘practical ministry’ where they are divided into various groups and are assigned different areas in and around Serampore town. They are expected and encouraged to proclaim the Gospels to the people.
Students belong to different denominations. As an ecumenical community, there is no prejudice on grounds of denomination. The college encourages students to mutually accept, learn and enrich one another through the various ecclesial traditions and practices that they are exposed to.
