INAUGURAL PROGRAMME OF THE BICENTENARY OF SERAMPORE COLLEGE

The grand inaugural ceremony of Bicentenary Celebration of Serampore College was held on 20^th November 2017. It was a befitting and appropriate way to kick starts our year-long celebrations. The program was a grand success. Some of the highlights of the Inaugural Programme of the Bicentenary Celebration of Serampore College are as follows:

• The programme started at 3.00 p.m. in front of the historic Main Building.
• The Chief Guest of the Inaugural Programme was Dr. Partha Chatterjee, Hon’ble Minister-In-Charge, Dept. of Higher Education, Science & Technology, Biotechnology, School Education & Parliamentary Affairs.
• To mark the historic milestones of Bicentenary of Serampore College, the Chief Guest and the Principal of Serampore College together and jointly lighted the lamp and the respected Master of Serampore College and other dignitaries also lighted the lamp.
• Dignitaries consisting of the Master, the Principal of Serampore College, Chairman of Serampore Municipality.
• President, Registrar of Senate of the College, Dean of SCEPTRE, Secretary of BTESSC.
• Guests and Invitees include: Church leaders, our sisters institutions, DPI, Vice-Chancellor, University of Calcutta, MP, MLA, the Local Councillor, Office Bearers and Members of Alumni Association of Serampore College, former and present professors of Serampore College, etc.

There is going to be a year-long celebration where different activities will take place. The theme for the Bicentenary of the Serampore College is “Education for Transformation”. Serampore College along with its constituent bodies is going to organize International seminars, national and regional seminar (for theological and secular fields) symposium, work shop, exhibition, debate, rally, sports, music and entertainment. Souvenir, publication of books, meeting with leading magazines and news paper of the country will be organized.

Rally

Serampore college has been observing its bicentennial celebration, and will be celebrating the cause throughout this year. As an integral part of this celebration, all the teachers, students, alumni and non-teaching staffs of both the Theology and the ASC(Arts-Science-Commerce) sections walked in the rally that came out on the morning of 17th February, 2018. It gives us immense joy and pride to notice that representatives from the institutions of Serampore joined and took active part in the rally.We hope our beloved Serampore College will never be in want of such generous and loving participation. Because, Serampore College is not merely an academic institution, but an emotion as well which people, old and young, have been cherishing for last two centuries and a sentiment that will last for ever.

Citizens Convention

As proposed by the Chairman of Serampore Municipality, a Citizens’ Convention was jointly organised by Serampore College & Serampore Municipality on 10th November 2017 from 5:00pm onwards at Town Hall, Serampore. This convention was organised to discuss how the citizens can participate and contribute towards the bicentenary celebration of the college and also to spread awareness on completion of 200 years of the college. A bank account has been opened with SBI to receive contributions from willing citizens and individuals for bicentenary programmes.
